As an Atlanta Hawks' fan, I believe Josh Smith(notes) has an opportunity to grow as a player if he listens to his coaches and continue to develop his game.
Smith's impact on a game defensively is well known and is one of the reasons why he is the youngest player ever—at the age of 24— to block 1,000 shots.
The multi-talented forward is now approaching his eighth year in the NBA and will be 26 years ago when the 2011-12 season begins.
Smith was selected by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2004 NBA Draft as the 17th overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft. The 6'9", 240 pound Smith came into the NBA right out of high school and has never looked back.
His reputation as one of the best dunkers was solidified with his entry into the NBA Slam Dunk Contest during his first season during the 2005 NBA All-Star Weekend.
However, Smith wants to be known more than just a dunker, but an all-around player.
For the 2010-11 season, Smith had averaged nearly 17 points a game along with shooting 47% from the field. Even though his blocked shots stats were down in 2010-11, he is still averaging 2.2 for his career and his defensive skills helped to garner him recognition last season as NBA All-Defensive Second Team for the 2009-2010 season.

In a playoff game versus the Chicago Bulls in the conference semifinals, Smith had one of the best all-around games in Hawks' playoff history by scoring 23 points, collecting 16 rebounds and dishing out eight assists in a 100-88 win over Derrick Rose(notes) and the Chicago Bulls.
2. (March 30th) Smith scores 26 as Hawks defeat Magic: Josh Smith led the Hawks in scoring with 26 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Smith played a great all-around game against a team that had dominated the Hawks the previous season. This particular win gave the Hawks a 3-1 regular season advantage. Smith was part of a defense that helped to hold the Magic to 38 percent shooting in those four regular season games.
3.(November 16th) Smith records 7 blocks in win over Pacers: Josh Smith had a monster game in a road game against the Indiana Pacers. Smith set the defensive tone, but was 9-for-16 from the field for 25 points and collected eight rebounds. 4. (March 23rd) Smith records double-double, 33 and 12 in close loss to Sixers: Smith did all that he could do to help rally his Atlanta Hawks back against the athletic, playoff-bound Sixers.

The 6'9" small forward scored 33 points and 12 rebounds for the slumping Hawks. Smith connected on a clutch three-pointer with 1.6 seconds to get the Hawks within three, but it wasn't enough as the Sixers escaped with a 105-100 decision.
5. (January 2nd) Despite tough shooting night, Smith's impact felt in win over Clippers: The Atlanta Hawks were able to beat Blake Griffin(notes) and the Los Angeles Clippers behind Joe Johnson's(notes) 29 points, but Josh Smith scored 22 points to help rally Atlanta in the fourth quarter to a 107-98 win.Smith may get some criticism over his three-point shot selection, but Smith's late three was critical in a fourth-quarter run that helped to seal the win.
